(no subject)

I saw the neurologist yesterday, and he confirmed that there is evidence of electrical damage along my ulnar nerve. He recommends surgery to fix it. We could wait to see if it improves on its own, but it's been since March with no improvement (and indeed some deterioration), plus there wasn't an event we could pinpoint that would have started it in the first place, so it's unlikely.

It will mean being out of work for at least two weeks, with my arm immobilized for at least one of those. There will be a scar on the inside of my arm, extending above and beyond the elbow. I'm lucky it's my left arm at least, but there's a lot I won't be able to do for what I'm sure will feel like an eternity.

I've emailed my boss to let him know, to see if there's any major project coming up that he hasn't told me about. It's bad enough I won't be able to work without that causing undue angst.

I just started reading Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver, and am enjoying it mightily. And if I continue to enjoy it, there are 7 more books in the series.

I have liked nearly everything of his that I've read; The Diamond Age in particular.

Another win!

I just got an email saying I'd won a Krups Home Cafe coffeemaker! We have a good Cuisinart that grinds beans, but this is a pod system, and I've been secretly longing for one (as an infrequent coffeedrinker, I love the easy cleanup part). :)

The (half) year in sweeps

Prompted by my convo with dawntreader90, I got off my tush and reorganized my 2006 wins by month. ( Here they are. )

Since I started in January 2005, I've entered 4,767 sweeps. Of those, 1,711 expired in 2006 (but I may have entered them in 2005), and I am currently entered in 645 of them. Of the 645, 210 are daily or 24-hour entries. I figure I enter about 4 days a week, for about 2 hours at a time.

So far in 2006, that's $6543.29 in winnings, including 2 trips (we'll probably take the cruise in 2007). 2005 brought $4880.66 in prizes (also including 2 trips).

Not bad for a geeky little hobby!
