We do not have bats in our belfry (which is what I would have renamed the attic if we had).

We have at least one nest of flying squirrels (aka sugar gliders), though. And one of them popped up and looked at me and he was SOOOOO CUUUUUUUUUUTE! The guy said that if we wait a couple of weeks, the babies (of which this was one) will be old enough so that when they are live trapped and relocated, they'll be able to survive on their own. And then another guy will crawl all over the roof and seal up the little cracks through which they entered -- we have a LOT of gables, and there are small holes where some of them weren't seamed to each other properly.

(thankfully, they're not harmful, so waiting a bit doesn't mean damage)

Hmm... of course they could also really be flying squirrels, not sugar gliders... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Flying_Squirrel

I hadn't realized that they lived over so much of the country! Cute little things, aren't they?

Just remember...

After I sent that, I found a website with some very cute southern flying squirrel pictures. And they're everywhere, even more than the northerns!

But, he was wrong when he said that they're the same thing. Sugar gliders come from Australia.... and they're marsupials (babies in pouch and all :-)

The flying squirrels are rodents, just like every other squirrel... no pouch... though they do look just about as cute :-)
