My ass, meet swift kick

I drove to DC today, thinking I was doing the end of month invoicing. I got laid off instead.
It's strictly a lack of work issue -- my boss is delighted with me and my work, but he can't justify keeping me any longer. We're working out a continuing consulting agreement, so I'll get a guaranteed amount each week to be available to him, and I'll get more work when it comes up -- like my enormous annual report, things like that. I'll get a fabulous reference, and we're working out the other details over the next week or so.
So, now I polish up my resume and figure out what it is that I can do, and find someplace cool to do it. Dana's already got me a foot in the door thing that he's working on -- ironically, just this week he and his guys were musing that it would be a perfect fit for me. It's only one day a week, but it's something to tide me over and may lead to contacts and more stuff like that.
AND, last night at rehearsal, I was talking with a woman about wanting a job that would take me out of the house, because frankly sitting at home all day has been wearing on me, and she asked about my skillsets and gave me a few good leads and people to call.
So I've got that going for me, which is nice.
SO. This weekend I may be a little raw, so commiserating is good. But really? It's going to be fine -- it's an opportunity (note to self: repeat until it becomes true). :D

You have a glowing reccomendation, it looks like doors are already opening up for you, and it sounds like this may be just the change you need. I have it on full authority and personal experience that working at home for an extended period of time turns you into a troll. (Just trust me on this one. *grin*)
Keep us posted on the job hunt, and I'm sending lots of fabulous new job vibes in your direction. :)
