I drove to DC today, thinking I was doing the end of month invoicing. I got laid off instead.

It's strictly a lack of work issue -- my boss is delighted with me and my work, but he can't justify keeping me any longer. We're working out a continuing consulting agreement, so I'll get a guaranteed amount each week to be available to him, and I'll get more work when it comes up -- like my enormous annual report, things like that. I'll get a fabulous reference, and we're working out the other details over the next week or so.

So, now I polish up my resume and figure out what it is that I can do, and find someplace cool to do it. Dana's already got me a foot in the door thing that he's working on -- ironically, just this week he and his guys were musing that it would be a perfect fit for me. It's only one day a week, but it's something to tide me over and may lead to contacts and more stuff like that.

AND, last night at rehearsal, I was talking with a woman about wanting a job that would take me out of the house, because frankly sitting at home all day has been wearing on me, and she asked about my skillsets and gave me a few good leads and people to call.

So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

SO. This weekend I may be a little raw, so commiserating is good. But really? It's going to be fine -- it's an opportunity (note to self: repeat until it becomes true). :D

Oh sweetie - I am sorry that happened. I've been through "RIFs" and even though it leads to better things, I can understand that it can still suck. Sending hugs your way!!!

Stunning to you, but you're right -- Serendipity seems to be surrounding you, so you might as well roll with it and see where it takes you. :)

I am so sorry to hear that you were laid off -- you sound fantastic, though, and as though there are windows opening all over the place before the sound of that door closing has even faded. So I will offer big hugs and drinkage this weekend as you're able, and if I see something that looks like you, I will point it in your direction.

I really really feel for you! I have had some bad moments like that, and no matter how much they print it in HR manuals, Fridays are the WORST time to break that kind of news. Thank goodness you have Faire and a support network to help you through!

I am envious of your outlook! I did fine without one, and I'm sure you'll no less than surpass your own expectations!

Oy. What a note to start your weekend on! I hope this works out and leads to better things. And more money. :)

wow.

Here's hoping that you find a job fit that works as well, or better, for you! (and soon as you want to)

Here's hoping you have an amazingly great weekend! (pssst... consider visiting on Sunday... we've got canvas overhead, and good company is always welcome!... not to mention, it's not like we're *that* far away from the Wine Garden and White Harts :-)

I'm sorry to hear that babe. Q's been unemployed now for 2 months and it's really stressful. I hope something else comes up quick.

Oh, honey, I'm sorry. :( *hugs*

But you're right - it WILL be fine. You have a glowing reccomendation, it looks like doors are already opening up for you, and it sounds like this may be just the change you need. I have it on full authority and personal experience that working at home for an extended period of time turns you into a troll. (Just trust me on this one. *grin*)

Keep us posted on the job hunt, and I'm sending lots of fabulous new job vibes in your direction. :)
