Why I'm voting for McCain

You've probably never seen me post anything vaguely political here; I loathe confrontation, and I know most of my flist are quite liberal, so I keep my mouth shut.

I believe wholeheartedly that Obama will do everything in his power to put all of his plans into place. He's been very clear about wanting to create a huge government, and he'll do it. I don't think that people will benefit from having things done for them; we have to do it for ourselves.

I don't see how Obama's plans are ever going to be paid for -- he keeps bringing up how he'll go through the budget line by line, and cut what doesn't work. The President doesn't have a line-item veto.

Frankly, I don't think either McCain or Obama are the right man for the job. Neither has had the balls to stand up and say "The American people have overspent for years, and it's time to stop. Your role model leading you to this point has been the US Government -- we've overspent for years and not been saving. It's time to stop." We NEED to stop spending beyond our means. But what we all WANT is for someone to put his arm around us and tell us that it's all going to be okay, which is what Obama's been doing. It feels better to be told that, than it does to be told that things suck, and it's going to hurt getting out of this.

Do I think that the President is solely responsible for the work of the government? No. Do I think McCain's proposal to freeze spending will be more beneficial than Obama's expensive plans, not one of which he will entertain the notion of cutting? Yes. I don't think McCain will be elected, barring a major upheaval in the next three weeks. But I will vote for him. And regardless of who is elected, I have hope that we'll be better off in four years than we are right now.

You shouldn't ever feel like you can't say what you think, lady. The fact that you and I are politically polar opposites and yet still such good friends I would hope can ease your mind a bit when you have something you want to say. :)

I am about to post an article that I was going to link to before I saw this post of yours -- it is NOT directed at you nor trying to change your mind at all, but I DO think it is highly illuminating reading and hope you'll check it out. <3.
