And then...

faithellen: (ff why are you so dumb?)

I was heading out to pick up Dana from his Saturday class, stepped off the curb wrong and ended up on my patoot. I gingerly moved everything to make sure it would move, and hobbled over to the car (not until after some JWs walked right past me). When I got to the training center, I limped over to everyone standing around and was nearly tackled by a horde of rampaging medics. They whisked me back to the car, broke out some ice packs and an ace bandage, and got me started on RICE.

Having trained professionals stare at your foot and making the "ew" face: not good.

One of the local guys called around until he found a doctor on duty, and got a promise that I could sneak in at the hospital and get x-rayed really quickly. From the time we checked in to out the door: 90 minutes.

It's not broken, but it's swollen all to hell. I have it wrapped and gel-splinted, and have some crutches to use (though most of the time I just walk carefully on it, unless I'm outside or the floors are particularly nasty). The bruises are progressing, but yesterday I had this wicked looking lightning bolt (photos at the moblog).

Today's our first day "working" from the new location. The cube pen is still not ready -- network drops/electrical haven't been run, the cubes aren't set up, and everything has to wait until after they remove a wall. I'm in temporary space with another girl, and between the two of us we have 3 computers, 4 monitors, 3 desks and 3 chairs, so I have a place to prop up the foot. I'm pretty good unless I move around a lot, and then I get tired very easily.

No cute shoes for me for a while. :(

I know you and people around you are experts at this, but taking some Arnica and rubbing some Arnica creme on your ankle may help. It did me a world of good when I wrenched my ankle trying to do a bell-kick in 3-inch red boots. (Drunk? Who? Little ol' me? *eg*) It's a homeopathic remedy available at your local Whole Foods or health-food store.

Hope you feel better soon, 'cause that really does suck. :^(

Sorry to hear it, lass. A sprain is nothing but trouble. Now then. What kind of patient are *you*??? *grin*

Honey - If you are trying to be Harry Potter, the lightning bolt goes on your *forehead*, not your foot!

Rest easy, and a second vote for the Arnica - my sister gets beat up by the horses all the time and swears by it.

Ouch! That looks like a nasty sprain :-( Glad to hear it's not broken at least.

Heal fast!

I'm glad it's not broken! The ER doc told me last week some sprains can be worse than breaks, (I guess in terms of long term damage.) Hopefully this isn't one of them, and will heal quickly.

As long as I have your attention, [livejournal.com profile] pherring had mentioned SAM splints (aluminum and foam) and when I went to look for them on eBay, I found a lot of "otherbrand" equivilents (which were a tad cheaper). Any opinion, brand-wise on these? It sounds like a handy thing to have around for first aid.

And yeah...I've been bemoaning the issue of my cute shoe collection sitting in boxes all summer. Again.

Ugh. I'm really sorry to hear it. Just make sure to really stay off it, otherwise they'll wind up having to put you in a cast (been there, done that) which is even less fun in summer heat.

I mock your pain

Oh, wait. What I meant was ,"I'm sorry to hear of your injury. I hope you're better soon."..yeah, that's it...sorry.

Poor dear! At least you have the excuse to have the "I have totally recuperated and now I need all new shoes" trip in your future!
