Dana and I just got home from a long day in Williamsburg, buying me a new car! I finally traded in Betty, my 1999 Civic with 147K miles, for a 2007 Pilot (name to be determined later*).
I started as I always do, with Consumer Reports' Auto Guide to see what they recommend. Based on that, I came down to the Pilot pretty quickly. Two weeks ago, I went to a Richmond dealership for help with my new license plates, and sat in one but didn't take it for a spin, because Dana wasn't with me.
I then went on the Honda website and requested quotes from 5 different dealers. Four of them got back to me, and after many phone calls and emails I was leaning towards Williamsburg. But none of the dealers had my model in stock (except one who had it in Cherry Pearl, which considering how fast I tend to drive would have been a bad idea). The guy at Williamsburg had a silver one on the way, and although the color made me feel meh, I agreed and put down a deposit.
The silver Pilot left Alabama on the 20th, and arrived in Williamsburg on the *30th*. I believe it was dragged there by a six year old girl with a wooden leg. However, before it arrived, my salesguy called to ask if I'd be happy with one in dark grey instead -- which was the color I wanted in the first place. :D
So I didn't even test drive the thing until TODAY, after agreeing to buy it. It's fabulous -- I'm up high, it's quiet, the ride is smooth, room for a metric butt-ton of stuff, and lotsa bells and whistles. I'm having the iPod Music Link installed as soon as they get the parts in, but in the meantime I have XM and a 6-disc CD changer, a backup camera, and navigation. ::BLISS::
This was my fourth car-buying purchase, and was by far the smoothest. (perhaps because my father wasn't involved...hmm.) I'd done all my homework ahead of time, I made my decision at arm's length rather than sitting in one and getting all attached and yearny, and I felt really good about the whole internet process.
So! Excited!
* I thought about Amelia, and then Dana pointed out perhaps that would be bad juju.

Date: 2007-04-01 05:31 pm (UTC)We got a black '06 Pilot last August and I just love it!!
I am constantly amazed at what we can fit into the back. Most recent - two Amish rocking chairs and side table.
We had a Toyota Camry for 13 years. Honda has much better customer service than what we received from Toyota.
Congrats on the new vehicle!!
