Two weekends ago, the incomparable [livejournal.com profile] pyratelady and I set out to replicate the dangerous sounding Schadenfreude Pie. In an effort to do justice to the original recipe, we photoblogged the experience. Let it be a warning unto you.

The ingredients. Innocuous enough.

Darcy laughs maniacally at her choice of chocolate.

Pointing out just how chocolatey the chocolate is.

Faith demonstrates her packing ability.

Adding the corn syrup. Dark, naturally.

And the molasses, which was "black strap" for that extra-added sense of doom.

Bubbly sinister goodness.

Darcy's pelvis quakes in fear.

The top of Darcy also quaking in fear.

Kahlua is not for Our Bean Hoor...she is true to Starbucks.

And here's where we started to deviate; adding cocoa powder because it wasn't chocolatey ENOUGH.

Powdery assimilation.

Needs more chocolate. How about chocolate chips?

Pouring out the goo.

Darcy rids the world of a mutant deformed chip.

Pie on the right has more chips added on top.

Darcy contemplates the world's ruin.

Faith has her eye on the pie.

Cooling piey goodness.

Close up of sheer terror, in pie form.

It now occurs to me, comparing our experience with the original recipe, that we may have neglected the eggs entirely. I was more in charge of photos, leaving Darcy in charge of ingredients. Perhaps ours was a denser pie than originally foretold...

In any event -- it was yummeh. Captain Moone and Skivee attempted to rename it "Oakum and Pitch Pie" but I refuse their reality and substitute my own. :)

FIN.

Jasmine of Gypsophelia dubbed it "Goth Pie." Of course, someone else commented, "Well, THAT sounds like a euphemism for SOMETHING."

That is just too wonderfully rich for words.

Damn you for posting this photoessay on the eve of my Return To The Diet. *sigh*

So, are you going to write to Mr. Scalzi and offer a link to this essay?

Also note to readers: fab manicure in photos is not mine.

Ya know, I was kinda thinking that I didn't think I had enough angst to bake a pie like this. Alone, I don't think that I do. However, I have a couple of girlfriends (former bosses from Freddie Mac) that, with their help, I think I could muster up the appropriate amount of malicious joy to properly make a Schadenfreude pie. Hmmm... Sounds like the activity for the next "Girls Night Out." *eg*
