Probably not another year wiser, though

THANK YOU all for the tsunami of birthday wishes! I had a mostly quiet day (except for the excitement about the Vegas win), and then Dana and I had dinner at the Thai Curry House up in Richmond, followed by Coldstone Creamery (my choice of the 4 free birthday ice cream offers that I received, although I suspect the others won't go unused...).
So now I'm officially in my late 30s, and the next two months and 5 days will be filled with reminders that I am TWO YEARS OLDER than my youngun' of a husband. ;)
I may have to find another nail salon, which makes me sad, since I found this guy on my second try and he does a great job. But he and his wife (who works with him) had a baby 8 months ago, and until yesterday the baby wasn't in the shop. Yesterday, they had him in one of those saucer thingies where he could scoot around on his own without falling over, and he kept ramming into my chair and other things and squawking (as 8 month olds are wont to do). I respect that they may not have any other options for him while they're working (I believe he's been with a grandparent until now), but if this is a permanent situation, I'll be going elsewhere. It's not relaxing, and while I don't expect plush oases of calm for $18/fill, I do want a screech-free zone. :)
It's not just the baby, although that's most of it...I had called and booked a 4pm appointment, but when I arrived, Rob wasn't there. He'd totally forgotten about the appointment and was out running errands (specifically, at the Post Office getting the baby's passport). They got him on the phone and he said he would be back shortly and asked if I could wait -- I was missing one nail entirely, so I opted to wait. He was a half-hour late, did my nails beautifully and apologized profusely...but I kind of expected a discount, since I'm a regular customer (and I'd also mentioned that it was my birthday)...maybe that was unreasonable. But baby + half-hour wait = assessment of continuing patronage based on next experience.
Haven't yet gotten the IOC schedule for this weekend, but I will post that as soon as it's in my hot little hands. Will we see any of our stalkers this weekend? (and will they be unionized?)

Will have a faire virgin with me too. My friend Katherine who works at the Retirement/Total Life Care facility my parents live in.

Date: 2006-09-27 12:46 am (UTC)I used to take Jacqui to nail salons -- she was quite happy to sit in her stroller and stare at everything, up til she turned ... maybe 18 months? And then I took her to the place near my mom, 'cause my mom needed a pedicure before her surgery, and that child, my daughter, had a HORRIBLE time. She wanted to be in the empty chair next to me -- why couldn't SHE have pretty toes?
The woman & her husband who own the place, though, LOVED Jacqui, and gave my mom and me excellent service, and that woman was so mad when my mom showed up by herself two times in a row after that that she was just horrible to my mom, who never went there again.
The end.
