I made the Richmond Symphony Chorus!
I found out yesterday, but work had me buried deeeeeeeeeeeep in a pile of yuck, so I forgot to come mention. :)
WHEE!
We start rehearsals on September 5, and the first concert is Sept 17. That's right, after the THIRD rehearsal. I'm not sure if these are pieces they started working on back in the spring, but I'll be sight-reading like a mother.
The September/October concerts will be Beethoven's Ninth and Thompson's Alleluia. December will be Handel's Messiah and a separate pops repetoire. In January we'll perform "side by side" with local high-schoolers (music TBA). February will be Brahms' Requiem, and then we finish up in May with Debussy Nocturnes.
I've never sung any of it, except for bits of the Handel (and some of the Christmas music, natch).
I ALSO just noted that the second weekend IOC is at MDRF coincides with the second bit of performances in September/October. I've emailed the chorus manager to let her know and see what happens -- it was a pre-existing conflict, and I'm out of town (and it's singing). The performances are scheduled Friday, Saturday and Monday, so I can definitely sing on the Monday, and *could* sing Friday and leave for MD either right after the performance or EARLY on Saturday morning, but that Saturday night one is right out.
I dug out my choir folder last night -- was so happy that I plumped for a good one the last time I sang with a group (which I see now was 1998).

Date: 2006-07-21 05:25 pm (UTC)Congrats! That's a lot of singing to learn and do. The Messiah is "logical" enough that it's not too tough to learn, just a bit of an endurance issue to get through (I've sung *everything* from 1st Tenor to 1st Soprano... my voice went down quite a bit for a while in high school... but it wasn't too bad shifting parts, or learning a new part... at least not if you're half-decent at sight reading and following along by listening to everything.
I *loved* doing Thompson's Alleluia. Did that as part of District Chorus in HS, think I still remember a good deal of the Alto line, though maybe not so much anymore...
May your voice behave, and you enjoy yourself as much as it's possible, singing with a lot of good voices!
