While everything looked so nice, I snapped a couple quick photos so you have a point of reference for my planty ramblings.
This is the main bed in front of the house, to the right of the door as you approach. Against the garage (the three windows) are holly flanked with juniper, and in front of the dining room (big window) is a Japanese maple surrounded by gardenias. This bed also has silver edge lavender, azaleas, and catmint.
This is the smaller bed to the left of the front door (which I left open for some unknown reason). Against the window we have the same holly and juniper, with a crepe myrtle on the far corner, and azaleas in front. The peonies are in the front on the right.
This shot has part of the long bed that runs along the driveway (taken from the front yard looking away from the property). We wanted this one to feel like an orchard, so there are three crepe myrtles separated by two groups of four Korean dwarf lilacs. This shot has the frontmost myrtle (not as leafy as the other two just yet) and the first set of lilacs as you come up the driveway.

Starting to look established even. Not bad for the amount of time gardening there.
And a green Japanese Maple? They're so pretty!

Have to remember to look up fertilization for some of the other things -- I finally got around to doing the gardenias and the azaleas, and I have stuff for the leylands (and more for the azaleas), but I don't want to lose anything else.
AND, I want to get some hydrangea and a dogwood or two to put up towards the street, near some pines. It will fill in that area and give us some color, and I believe the hydrangea will become blue/purple because of the acid in the soil from the pines (but if I'm wrong, still won't look bad with the dogwood).

I'm thinking about looking into redbud shrubs. They look so pretty right now, and IIRC they're not so bad in full leaf.
