First -- do any iPod iPeople out there know of a good volume standardizer program or thingy? A lot of the songs on my iPod are at varying volume levels, and I'd love to be able to fix them all in one swell foop.

It's a quiet evening, after a quiet weekend, punctuated only by Hagen announcing to all and sundry that HE IS IN CHARGE. My dog is Al Haig.

Dana and I pulled duty on Friday night: I came home near midnight to let the dog out, and by the time I got back to the station, they'd gone out on their first call. I dozed off to be awakened an hour later -- Dana and I left to come home, because we had an EMS conference to go to on Saturday. We got a couple hours of sleep here, went up to Richmond and grabbed some sweaty pastries and bad coffee, and went into the first session.

There's nothing like EXCEEDINGLY gory photographs up on the screen to wake your ass up. Especially when accompanied by equally nasty descriptions. I've now seen 70-year-old hermaphroditic crotch. O.M.G. Failed suicide attempt by dowsing in gasoline, failed suicide attempt by gunshot to the face, electrical burns, and photographs of the Pentagon victims in various stages of healing. Good morning!

A guy one row back from me made a couple grunting noises, like Billy Bob in Slingblade, and fell over seizing. We all started a little, and then realized that he had a small herd of doctors, nurses and paramedics around him, and went back to filling in the little bubbles on our CEU sheets. Very odd, and yet comforting to know that should anything happen, I was likely in the best company.

There were four more sessions, plus a mini-one on pelvic injuries AT LUNCH. I was pretty happy that I was actually sitting with my back to most of the screens, although much of the presentation was x-rays (they mentioned catheters though).

Today I fertilized several trees and our front flower beds, and placed 12 plants for planting by the lawn guys (because if I touch it, it will die), and then bought myself a Chill Pad -- loving it.

Tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of Mom's death. Lots of thoughts of her lately. Dad assures me that she would be very happy with what I've done with myself since then. I hope so.
