Marker songs meme
Jan. 19th, 2006 12:17 pmList five "marker songs" that match periods or events in your life -- good and/or bad, and the events that they match. They don't necessarily have to be life-changing moments; they can just be markers of times and or places that made you feel happy or sad.
1. The original Broadway cast album to "Jesus Christ Superstar." This may be the best album ever for long road trips (along with "The Committments"), but it will always remind me of sitting around the Piglet Racing Trailer in the MDRF campgrounds, singing the entire score VERY LOUDLY until very late. I believe Andy Bittner ("Mortimer") drove his car into a small ditch after leaving that evening.
2. "Santa Baby," Eartha Kitt. Driving in the rain to a Christmas party at Laura Lingle's. And Miss Eartha is so damn sexxah!
3. "Baby Got Back," Sir Mixalot.
snarkymarcy was appalled that I'd never heard this song until I was in my 30s. :) Always reminds me of good times with many different sets of good friends, generally at the top of our lungs and/or tipsy.
4. "Only The Good Die Young," Billy Joel. Brings to mind the many many sleepless hours spent drafting long into the night, fueled only by beer and soda and chips and Pace picante sauce. I will always sing this "Come out, Flanagan..." in honor of our HOTTIE fencing instructor who nearly graduated college a virgin. Chris Griswold *could* have waited an extra day so we could see if the Freedom of Conscience statue really would get up and walk away, but apparently she had the opportunity the night before graduation and took it.
5. "Linus and Lucy," Vince Guaraldi Trio, but mostly as played by Bill Harris. Bill breaks into this song whenever we walk in to where he's playing (as long as he's wearing his glasses!). Dana and I love it so much that we used it as our recessional. It's our song. :D
