Yesterday was a LONG day of singing and standing and sweating. It was the first time I'd seen the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and they're FABULOUS. I didn't realize that they are paid musicians, and I loves it when artists make money doing their thing. (The Chorus is unpaid -- it does amuse me that my professional gig involves silly clothes and drunk people outdoors, whereas the volunteer one is all serious music and nice outfits.)
We rehearsed at a local high school with the orchestra for a couple hours, split up to do sectional rehearsals, and then headed to the park for a potluck picnic. I met a few people, but I'm really bad with lots of new faces and names, plus there's that whole shy thing I have in crowds. After the picnic we changed and headed for the amphitheatre, which was a nice space with several rows of wooden benches (with backs!), and then a big grassy hill for people to loll upon. The stage was a concrete slab, which was hard on my already aching legs and back (24 hours in duty boots will do that to me).
I biffed a bunch of notes and some words now and then, but I did not make a sound when everyone around me was silent, so likely I'm the only one who knows (save for my alto buddies). :) We've got three more rehearsals until the Masterworks series at the end of the month -- I will only make the final of three concerts, due to MDRF conflicts. I'm still waiting to hear from The Boss on whether I'll have to be at the office on Monday Oct 2, or whether I can do it on Sept 29, which would make my life infinitely easier.
