and on this week's episode of 24

Dana and I just got home from a 24-hour shift. In addition to our regular unit mark-up tasks, we washed the ambulance, fully cleaned the inside, washed and folded 3 loads of laundry, swept the floors, cleaned the bunkrooms and did the dishes. Inbetween all that, we ran 4 calls to 4 different hospitals, with 5 other providers (in various crew configurations), and did in-service training on CPR and IVs. Plus dinner, breakfast, lunch, and an all-too brief period of sleep.
Call 1 was dispatched as unconscious, but turned out to be a drunk, whom we transported to the VA. He did not throw up in the back, despite very loud retching, but did yank out his IV and bleed all over God and creation (right after we'd cleaned everything at the start of the shift). Call 2 was dispatched as an allergic reaction with difficulty breathing, which thankfully did not involve difficulty in breathing, and was most likely due to an insect bite. Call 3 was a rollover MVA, with loss of consciousness -- that was a pretty spectacular ex-moving truck full of someone's worldly possessions. We got that patient collared and stripped and backboarded and loaded and whisked away to a fun-filled afternoon in the trauma room. And call 4 was to a woman with abdominal pain, who'd been recently released from the hospital Farthest Away From Everything Convenient, so we took her back there gently (aka very, very slowly).
Tomorrow is chorus rehearsal #3, followed by a potluck dinner and then our first concert. The orchestra will be playing the National Anthem, Copland, Barber, and other things, and we're singing Wagner & Beethoven. (linky here for my music geeky friends.) I suppose I would be more nervous if I weren't bone tired, but I'm surrounded by good solid singers and I'm really looking forward to it. (In a stunning change from every other chorus I've sung with, the conductor openly adores his alto section.)
